GOPIO

The key to the success of the annual international convention of the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) in Durban this year is that it contributes to the process of nation building in South Africa.

And there is every indication that it is going to do just that, according to Professor Dasarath Chetty, Pro-Vice-Chancellor: Corporate Relations at UKZN and President of the South African chapter of GOPIO.

The bid to host GOPIO’s 2010 annual convention in Durban was won by the South African chapter in association with UKZN’s Professional Conferencing Services. More that 1 000 delegates from 20 different countries will attend and engage with a similar number of their South African counterparts during the gathering from 28-31 March.

GOPIO, which has members in 25 countries representing 27 million people of Indian origin worldwide, is committed to the promotion of human rights and the cultural heritage of Indians.
